Advantages:
Do it yourself - If you have some experience in carpentry, building one of our cabins will be a breeze. The cabins are stick built on the site in the same way as other homes. All interior finishes would be completed as usual. The exterior is done in cedar siding that is pre-stained. The pre- staining saves thousands on labor costs instead of having the wood stained onsite. The metal roof is precut and all flashing is pre bent which also saves time and money. The smaller cabins (less than 899 square feet) have pre-cut and labeled floor joists, exterior walls, rafters and ceiling joists. All of these factors make our kits ideal for the individual who wants to earn a little "sweat equity."
Price Advantage - The materials are priced at least 30% less than the same materials can be purchased in the United States. This is because of the North American Free-Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the United States and Canada. Can our prices be beat? We have had customers take plans to other lumber suppliers. They have found that the price can be matched but it is not when doing an "apples to apples" comparison. There were materials missing, the materials were inferior (2nd or 3rd grade), they were quoting 2 X 4 vs. 2 X 6 and on and on. In addition, supplying all materials to your builder eliminates the possibility of hidden mark-ups, additional labor costs, or unnecessary trips to the lumber yard.
Cedar vs. log - There are several advantages of cedar siding. The main one is that if you are going to use a contractor to build your home, there are not many contractors that are familiar with log home construction. For those contractor that build log homes, the price of your home can increase enormously. If you want the look of log, but don't want the added expense and maintenance, we can provide log siding to replace the cedar siding that generally comes with the cabin kit. Contact us for more information.
In addition, the interior of our cabin kits is more flexible than log homes providing several alternatives for interior finishes. For example, for the rustic wood look, you can use pine. Or you can use a combination of pine and drywall. This makes decorating the interior more flexible and allows you to add color to your interior by painting the drywall. Insulation advantages - Our cabins have the advantage of thicker exterior walls (2 X 6 vs. 2 X 4). This enables you to have more insulation in the exterior walls which raises your resistance value (R-factor) from R11 to R16. This will save you money in energy costs over the years.
